“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet andprevention of disease” Thomas Edison
My passion for health and nutrition began early. I grew up in a household where physical activity was encouraged and supported and home cooked family meals were the norm. In my extended family, my grandma was my inspiration for cooking and my love of food. I spent lots of time in the kitchen watching and helping my grandma cook. In my late twenties I began to host family holiday dinners and experiment with cooking. My first few dinners had one or two edible dished but the gathering was always fun. Year after year my meals got better and I tried a new dish each year. I discovered that I loved being in the kitchen and found great satisfaction from others enjoying meals that I prepared. One of my goals is to revive the lost art and love of cooking. Many think that cooking is difficult and time consuming but a good nutritious meal can be prepped and cooked with minimal time and effort. Cooking can even be fun and creative. Sharing a meal with family and friends is a great way to connect and share our lives.
My son was born when I was in my early thirties and when he was very young, he developed eczema. I also suffered from allergies and knew the connection between allergies, eczema and developing asthma. I was determined not to have my son develop allergies or asthma. I did not like the steroid creams that were prescribed by his pediatrician and began researching natural remedies and for his eczema and connections with certain foods. Thus began my fascination with natural ways to heal common problems and the relationship between food and illnesses. My research led me to not only herbal remedies but also to understanding the power of real food. I began replacing jar baby food with pureed organic fruits and vegetables and I changed my diet as well. I removed dairy products from our diets and his eczema cleared up and I began to feel better. I had more energy, my allergies were less severe and my sleep patterns were better. I realized that proper diet was the key to maintaining health.
Combining my love of cooking and my thirst for nutritional knowledge, I began helping friends and family with nutrition questions, researching their problems and suggesting solutions. I loved what I was doing! So here I am following my passion for health, wellness and my calling to serve.
Although there are basic, standard nutritional requirements, everyone is unique and their nutritional profile and requirement is unique. I believe that my role is to educate, empower and encourage my clients to meet their health and wellness goals. Working as a team, I am here to help navigate my clients through developing and executing a plan to optimize their health. I take an integrative approach to nutrition that goes beyond looking at only the nutritional value of food. An integrative approach considers the social, emotional and psychological aspects of diet and nutrition. Food is just one part of what a person needs to live a healthy and fulfilling life. My approach to nutrition explores, diet, movement, lifestyle and your emotions as they relate to food. Your wellness encompasses all aspects of life.
I have a M.S in Nutrition and Integrative Health from Maryland University of Intergrative Health, am a Certified Nutrition Cerificant (CNS) and am a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) in the state of maryland. I look forward to working with you!
